From National TV to Digital: My Journey in Video Editing – By Jawad Shah

The story begins when I first stepped into the edit suite of Pakistan Television (PTV) in 2007.

I never imagined the journey would eventually take me across borders, screens, and platforms. What began as a national broadcasting job evolved into a passion-driven career spanning traditional TV, film, and the ever-changing digital landscape. Today, as a Senior Video Editor with over 18 years of experience, I proudly wear the badge of a visual storyteller, blending legacy broadcasting with the pulse of modern digital content.

At PTV, I honed my skills editing dramas, films, telefilms, and documentaries. Working on more than 300 projects gave me an intimate understanding of narrative pacing, emotional beats, and the invisible rhythm that makes an edit feel right. My role wasn’t just technical—it was creative. Each frame had to convey emotion, tell a story, and connect with millions. That’s where I discovered my love for editing wasn’t about cutting footage—it was about crafting experiences.

In 2011, I was honored with three National Awards for my work in drama and film editing—a career-defining moment that validated years of dedication. But as the industry evolved, so did I. I was at the forefront of PTV’s transition from analog to digital systems, helping modernize workflows and train colleagues. This shift sparked something in me: a desire to explore the digital frontier more deeply.

That passion led me to start freelancing internationally. In 2023, I began working with Canadian networks like Eastlink TV, editing shows ranging from talk shows like Past & the Curious and Happy Hour, to lifestyle content like Let’s Eat!and Homes & Shores. Each project taught me how global audiences consume stories differently, and how editing needs to adapt to different cultures, formats, and expectations.

Through it all, I stayed grounded in the fundamentals—emotional storytelling, tight pacing, and visual polish—while embracing new tools like DaVinci Resolve and workflows for YouTube and social platforms. Editing isn’t one-size-fits-all anymore. It’s about versatility, speed, and understanding the heartbeat of every platform—whether it’s a national TV drama or a 30-second reel.

This journey eventually inspired the birth of Deepixel—a creative platform where experience meets innovation. Here, I collaborate with creators, businesses, and broadcasters to bring stories to life, whether for screens big or small. At Deepixel, we believe that great editing doesn’t just assemble shots—it amplifies vision.

Today, I continue to push boundaries, learn new techniques, and explore new narratives. My journey from PTV’s analog tapes to Canada’s digital pipelines is a testament to the power of passion, adaptability, and storytelling. If you’re a creator, producer, or brand looking for someone who brings heart, precision, and two decades of experience to every frame—let’s connect.
